Design Brief
Design Brief
Deliverable
- One poster design promoting a DJ event Event
- "10 years of Blond" anniversary DJ set
Ai service used
Claude by Anthropic (Anthropic, 2026) was used though its chat mode to create the design. From here claude used its design skill that is built into chat to build the poster as I talked to it. Each prompt given updated the actually art board, so chat and design changes were made in parallel
Co-create experience
The whole poster was design in one continuous session with Claude. The first version of the poster was only a wireframe with a basic title and some place holder text.
Prompt
"we are going to do this project together, the brief of the poster design is a 10 year anniversary party for the album blond by frank ocean with a dj set, to start i want you to create a 1 wire frame for the design"
Result

Claude seemed to forgot about the 10 year anniversary part, so I prompted it so add this and included some direction on how I wanted it to look.
Prompt
"can you add "10 years of …" and then make it say blond at the end. i want blond to be bigger than the "10 years of" though so it stands separately from the title"

This then generated the above result. The bottom half the poster had too much empty space so my next prompt was to fix that.
Prompt can you get rid of the "about the night" section and instead put the "what, where, when, tickets" section there. make each one stack on top of each other
Result

The poster was almost where i wanted it to be so for my final prompt I asked it to add some colour, change the font, make the font bigger, and include a logo what is relevant to frank ocean.
Prompt "The poster is almost there, can you add some colour to it, change the font so it doesn't look so basic, make the font bigger and also add a logo that is relavant to frank ocean."
Result

What extend did the service meet the brief
The service was able to meet the brief but it took multiple prompts. While I could of done a better job at prompting the service there were times when it completely forgot about my direct instructions.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Fast to produce a rough results that follow the basic prompt
- Was able to pick a colour schemes that matched the aesthetics of the poster
- Because the poster was live and editable, I was able to pick out certain elements i wanted the chat to change
Weakness
- It failed to notice the dead space at the bottom of the page and when prompted it wouldnt fix it until I asked it twice
- Left to its own devices it would of stuck with the generic font rather than picking something that is more genre specific
- Doesn't have a true sense of layout, changing the wireframe layout mid-design
Assist designers or disrupt design practices
During this task Claude acted less like an idea generator and more like a fast production partner. It was able to follow instructions quickly and cleanly but it would notice it's own flaws within its design (The Economist, 2021). Most of the prompting felt like I was correcting its mistakes to get the result I wanted when I could of done the whole design a lot quicker if i just did it myself. Its very good at instantly generating ideas, designs, and colour schemes, but putting that all together it falls flat. While a tool like this raises the floor on how quickly a rough design can be made, it still doesn't have that trained eye that most designer have to identify what works and what doesn't work.
